Dear NPSA Discussant:
This year you will be submitting your Discussion directly on line
to the American Journal of Surgery (AJS). That means that you will
no longer need to bring hard copy and disk to the meeting. You will
be receiving an e-mail invitation to submit your Discussion from
the AJS, along with directions on how to submit and respond to editorial
input on line. This invitation will arrive as we get closer to the
meeting, and the Discussion will need be submitted just before the
meeting.
In preparing your Discussion I recommend that you prepare two documents.
The first should be the version you will read at the meeting. This
can include the usual pleasantries, any humor, local references,
and the particular questions you wish to ask at the meeting. Please
remember to keep it under 5 minutes of presentation time.
The second should be the actual Discussion you will submit to the
journal. This should be a shorter version of the meeting Discussion
with the pleasantries, extraneous comments, and “smaller”
specific questions removed-this document should read more like an
invited commentary, focusing on a few key issues the paper brings
up, and limited to 500 words or less. Global, open ended questions
are OK to include.
Thank you. On behalf of the NPSA membership, we are looking forward
to hearing your Discussion at the meeting in November and seeing
it in the Journal.
Sincerely,
John T. Vetto, M.D.
